Towing a 2009 ford fusion on dolly

I will be towing it on the dolly for the first time in the morning. I have a 2009 ford fusion FWD with auto trans. Do I leave the trans in Park or Neutral to tow ? The owners manual doesn't say. I assume I would leave it in park and tow away but I just wanted to ask to be sure. I don't want to break nothing.

Thanks for your help,

  • Leave it in park and take the key out. Since the front wheels are not rotating and the steering wheel does not move.

You only need to leave the key in if you tow 4 down, and the front tires will have to turn to follow he tow vehicle.
  • I towed a Fusion Front Wheel Drive on a dolly for a couple of years.

Place it in park (P) when it is on the dolly, emergency brake off, straps tight and you are good to go.

The instructions with my dolly specifically stated "Place the transmission in park"
  • Putting the driven wheels on the dolly, I think you'd be ok in either Park or Neutral, but I think I'd leave it in neutral to keep any hill crest or valley bottom stresses off the parking pawl in the tranny. Remember to leave the key in it so the steering wheel lock doesn't engage.
