Towing a 2016 VW Golf GTI

Does anyone tow a 2016 or 2015 VW Golf GTI four wheels down? I know that VW does not discuss RV towing in their owner's manual but I know for a fact that a lot of people have flat towed various manual transmission equipped VWs.

I have checked with a VW dealer and was told that the front end structure of the 2015 and 2016 Golfs and Golf GTIs were the same. However, the grill on the Golf GTI is different than the grill on the regular Golf.

Blue Ox makes the P/N BX3836 base plate for the 2015 Golf which should also fit the 2016 Golf since they evidently are the same. Possibly that base plate could be used on a 2015 or 2016 Golf GTI with some modifications on how it protrudes thru the different grill.

Anyone out there know more about this issue?

No 2015 VW's listed on the 2015 MH towing guide. Dick

Check Motorhome Towing Guide (on the 'net)...if any info is not in the owners' manual, have your VW dealer contact their "engineering dept" by phone and have them answer the question. I did that when interested in a Mazda. Dealer was most responsive. While I waited, too! (End result: at that time, NO Mazda was towable 4 down even with a stick shift).

Just because a baseplate is made for it doesn't mean it SHOULD be towed 4 down. Most likely a stick shift would be OK...but an automatic ? All wheel drive ? Better research or you'll find transmission parts all over the road!
