I use a non smart key to unlock the steering wheel in my 2015 Toyota when towing..I was told by someone the other day that this will cause big problems with my Toyota computer..I did the same thing with my 2013 Toyota for a year with no adverse effects..Do es anyone kn ow if this is a problem? I will ask my Toyota expert tomorrow..Thanks..

I hope it is OK. I have been doing that for 4 years with my Subaru.

We've been using the key turned off but left in place routine since we learned about it not long ago. Thanks, Leroy! :B But we use a non-smart key that's had most of the head cut off and is painted flat black. Looking in the toad windows, it's very difficult to tell there's a key in the slot.

If the car ran after the first time you used it, You are probably OK.

Very simple modification, go to an auto parts store and buy a new power port and install it in a convenient location. Wire it directly to the battery with an in-line 10 AMP fuse. As a mater of fact, I believe Brake Buddy makes a kit for just this purpose.

Your Toyota "Xpurt" is misinformed about the use of a plain key.

You are aware that most Asian imports since 2009 model year do not require the key to be in the ACC position to unlock the steering. Try this:
1 insert key and turn to ON position
2 turn key to the OFF position
3 DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY

The steering will stay unlocked until the key is REMOVED from the ignition switch.

Not the OP, but I bet his reason is the same as mine. The valet key will start the car, so if someone wants to steal it, they can unhook and break a window.
