And the cops never stop them. Maybe now they will start. There should have been no reason for him to hit that RV if he was doing the speed limit and slowing down for a vehicle pulled on the shoulder. Just saying but I see it everyday I get on the interstates. Of course the truck driver survived and... "The truck driver declined comment to a reporter." :(

Urge your state's highway patrol to write more tickets for the 18s, RVs and cars.

A common cause of this is overtired Semi Drivers... Alas, they do their best to enforce the rules, but there is reason why log books are nicknamed "Swindle Sheets". and alas, that's it.

Try hauling all the food and everything else that has to get to you somehow in your RV for a while, then ***** about the truckers. Look at all the ones on the road, and remember that whatever you don't like about those drivers, they have to put up with all the idiot RV and 4-wheller idiots on the road. And they do 10 times more putting up with every day than all of us do in a year. Sure there are lots of bad ones out there, but for every bad trucker, there are hundreds of worse drivers driving RVs and cars.Edited to change "you" to "all of us".....

X2 for above about cars. Seems there is almost weekly news reports of cars and pickups ramming other vehicles stopped on the shoulder of local highways, even hitting patrol cars with their emergency lights flashing.

I just advocated enforcement of speed limits for all, John. I called no one an "idiot."

Southern Ontario has the busiest section of highway in North America, it's also the fastest & easiest E/W route.

The Provincial Police have become very good at 'educating' truckers, $110 at a time, that the law in Ontario requires that they leave no less than 180 feet between them and the vehicle they are following.

That is not only a safe distance but it leaves lots of room for other vehicles to move back and forth between lanes.

I'm still trying to figure out what speed has to do with running in back of an RV which is parked on the side of the road.

I'd rather run down the road with the truckers than some of the RV drivers I've seen. Most of the trucks seem to be well maintained and the drivers have to be "qualified" to drive. RV drivers, on the other hand, just get behind the wheel and there's no vehicle inspections. I've also found most truck drivers are more courteous to RV's than the cars are.

There's a HUGE difference between RVs and Semi's: Millions of trucks on the highways and thousands of RVs. More trucks, more opportunity for mayhem. How often do you read in the paper "RV plows into car killing a bunch of folks"? Rarely, very rarely. Not so with trucks, happens all the time.

There's a HUGE difference between Cars and Semi's: Trucks weigh 10 to 15 times as much as cars. Harder to stop, maneuver, etc. Do more damage when the hit anything.

I've had plenty of cars try and take the front bumper off of semi truck.

I have also passed my share of RVs that set in the left lane doing 60 mph.

I'm sorry that some of my fellow drivers are pigs and ********. But you know some of the RVers out here are not much better.

I've seen plenty of times that some clown is bee-bopping down the highway in the left lane, then realizes that their exit is coming out. They slam on brakes and dart across 4 lanes of traffic, cutting off anyone in their way. I've seen this happen to OTR trucks on many occasions, though I have thankfully never witnessed a wreck as the result of it.

There are plenty of poor drivers across the board. Without specific knowledge of each individual wreck, it is asinine to make assumptions based upon vehicle type.

I get a kick out of the pee bottle comments. I drove a semi for a few years but could never figure out the art of filing that bottle. :h

now that would be an interesting direction for this thread. :W

I see this **** all the time, on I-94 between Detroit and Chicago in southern MI. Truckers clogging the left lane trying to pass, truckers tailgating each other in the right lane so they can pretend they got 'em a convoy, people in cars trying to get around them... One day last summer I watched a truck in the left lane have TWO blowouts on the trailer in heavy traffic. Gators, brake lights and cars swerving all over the road. It's a miracle there was no pileup.

The solution is a third lane, but that'll never happen--our politicians won't even fix the roads we have, much less improve them. A ban on low quality retreads wouldn't hurt either.
