under hood light

Anybody recommend a small led light that I could mount on my firewall or inner fenders of my truck. Want to leave it permently so must be well made. Don't even want to try a plastic mount.

I'm seeing some bulbs that use 180ma, how much would be needed to leave on around the clock. rat light and anything else
  • Here's an inexpensive fixture I built. It uses an LED panel and a card holder I bought at the Dollar store. The card holder comes with a glass lense so, for under-hood use, you may wish to discard that. What I did was cut a piece of 18 ga aluminum to replace the cardboard backer on the card holder. I screw the aluminum sheet to the surface, mount the LED panel, and slide the rest of the cardholder with the lense onto the aluminum. One 48 SMD panel will light up an RV interior. For underhood, constant on, I'd choose an LED panel of 8 or 12 SMD. THat will keep the current low.

  • Folks, the op isn't looking for a traditional under hood light. They are looking for a light to leave on all the time.

Mercury is now classified as a hazardous waste no more mercury switches are made.

  • Look up rock lights. They make led's for utv's as well for the fender. lots of colors and prices.
  • I honestly dont think that wold dissuade rats. I think they would actually like and be drawn to it at night.
Just a thought - good luck.
  • Unless you have a 120 power source available, you will be limited to either a motion sensor or solar - preferably both.
