So much depends upon how what is being said is interpreted. I was one interviewed by Jessica Bruder, the author. I most certainly do not fit the description she depicted and have written her recently to point that out. Her response, "Thank you for taking the time to read the article and write to me with your thoughts. It's true that there are very many voices and experiences on the road, and I'm sorry you feel that those reflected in the story don't resonate with your own experience."

I guess if you interview 12 people and 10 of them are crosseyed you might tend to think most people are crosseyed. I know I told her I worked so that we could travel and spend without impacting our retirement money. It is our "fun" money. I have heard some people call it their "egg" money, harking back to when people sold eggs off their farm for a little extra spending money for luxuries. If I never worked another season for Amazon I would not go hungry nor lose my home or even my RV for that matter. I would have to make a choice to limit where I traveled and how much I spent though because my retirement nest egg has to last until I die and I'm not making any plans to do that just yet!
Both retired. Travel with Nicky the Schnoodle. Son graduated and is teaching high school math. We still love our 2006 34' Allegro Bay XB and have 50,000+ miles on her.

The author only writes what she wants us to hear; just like the TV; Radio and newspaper talking heads! When one has an agenda they take it to the limits of blowing it all out od proportion!

Just a random thought about the tethered folks that don't understand traveling and are stuck in go nowhere, do nothing jobs.
