Valterra pull handle, part 2
Refer to first post problems. Several emails with Valterra summarized. Handle pulled loose from slider, them: that's unusual, might be bolted too tight, me: how tight should bolts be tightened them: little bit more than finger tight. Me: what torque, them: 32 foot pounds, me: that's a lot more than bit past finger tight, do you mean inch pounds? Them: nope 32 foot pounds. So I took a 7/16" bolt and a few nuts and tried to tighten to 32 lbs. grade 2 bolt as supplied, snapped off before wrench clicked. Referring to a torque table, a grade 2, 7/16" bolt should be torqued to 27 lbs. After a rather nasty job of pulling out old valve, took a dremmel to it and cut open the sealed box that holds the slider. As suspected, the pull rod is just press fit in a pocket on the side of the slider. A simple nut bedded in the slider with a threaded rod would seem to me to make life a lot better. At least this units come with a metal pull handle now instead of the old plastic one. Any how new assembly in place. Hint for anyone replacing theirs, make sure you pull out BOTH rubber seals before replacing:) .
CORRECTION: as pointed out I meant 1/4" bolt with 7/16" nuts. Torque chart does show 4-4.7 foot pounds.
