- Ralph_CramdenExplorer IIAbout 50% of RV's, actually all vehicles, are constructed of materials that are magnetically attracted to concrete. Just look at the marks on Jersey barriers in construction zones. On my long daily commutes on I 70 in SW PA, which is in a constant state of construction, I see at least 4 people per week scraping those barriers or using both lanes while going through them. Usually it's only tire smoke but hit them hard enough.....oh well. The lanes are in actuality just as wide as without the barriers yet some people can't seem to fathom it. It's just like the tunnels going into Pittsburgh. Most people need to slam on the brakes when entering for some reason.
- PatrickA51ExplorerIf he wasn't awake before he hit I bet that he had a very "Rude Awakening". I seem to remember when I lived in San Leandro they had Truck and oversize lanes on all of the bridges in the bay area ?

he had to be over 2ft away from the toll booth window
was he trying to drive up and open the drivers door
instead of using the window in the door to paymyredracer wrote:
That MH looks like a Winnebago Journey 39QD, circa 2002 and internet says the width is 8'-5.5". Should have cleared easy with over 2' to spare. Has to be simply a case of operator error. If a MH-er can't clear that, they shouldn't be driving one. Maybe this guy won't anyway after he shows his wife the repair bill, lol... - Dutch_12078Explorer II

If you look closely at the photo I posted previously, "the man" has been edited in laying down across the lane twice. Even though he's slightly bent over, if he's still at least 5'3", that lane is easily 10'6" wide.
Here's a cropped version that might be clearer...
OK. Didn't notice that, Dutch. Thanks.
I agree it's deceiving in the original photo though, that's why I tried the edited version to see for myself. - mr__edExplorer

Guess that was what driver thought also......:S
If you look at the lane to the right, it appears that the guy standing there could lie down across the lane with little room to spare.
Wonder what math they used to come up with 10' 6" width.
I agree. Looking at the man, he appears to be around 6+ feet tall. Lying down across that "wide" lane, would make it some feet narrower than advertised.

I measured the mirrors on my new Motorhome. Each mirror sticks out 1' on either side. That would make my Motorhome 10.5' wide. Not sure if I would fit. myredracer wrote:

Dang highway department put those concrete blocks out to route traffic. Only thing was my MH did not fit between them. :R
