Lost my fresh water fill cap and I cannot believe how expensive they are. Anyone else lost theirs and came up with an inexpensive replacement? Seems like some other say, bottle cap should work Any suggestions? I really don't care what it looks like as long as the water stays in and the bugs stay out.

When towing with a full water tank I would get water inside the water fill hatch door that was splashing up through the fill tube even though it was capped and through the vent tube when the trailer was bouncing around when being towed. The water would then run through a slot cut in the water hatch door assembly where the cam lock would catch when you lock the door. When it ran through the slot it would leak into the wall.I went to Lowe's or Home Depot and bought some tiny corks and a solid black rubber stopper. You can find them in the specialty hardware drawers in the section with the nuts and bolts. Ace hardware has them too. I use a cork stuffed into the vent hose hole. I picked a stopper that would fit tight inside the hole the fill tube is connected to. I drilled through the stopper and installed a small picture hanging D-ring with wire lanyard using a stainless machine screw, stainless lock nut and 2 stainless washers. I wanted a lanyard in case I pushed it in too far I could pull it back out. I used the nut and bolt so they didn't have to worry about ripping a screw out of the stopper when pulling on the wire.When I get to camp I pull the stopper and the Cork and put the cap back on the water fill tube. I keep the stopper and corks in the silverware drawer so I don't lose them.

Easy came easy go. Thankfully mine has a lanyard.

OK where do you get the free gator aid? :h

First thought came to mind was to whittle a chunk of firewood down until it would fit in the hole Then saw the whittled down part off and jam it in the hole, use the shavings to start a campfire instead of a fire starter stick. :B

Gator aid to the rescue. Yes I could afford the $12.00 part but because I can and do improvise, I can afford the $12.00 part;)
Gator aid cap fits just fine and in essence, it was free.

Lost one of mine and improvised with a Clamato Juice lid...possibly a tomato juice bottle has the same lid...keep one on hand incase I loose one again.

I did a quick search to see what the problem is all about. Prices are all over the map so maybe the OP found one of those $25 rip offs and didn't continue to search.

Perhaps OP hasn't looked around very much. Unless we're talking some hard-to-find exotic part, it's hard to imagine a $10 part is "too much", although sometimes people surprise me with how cheap they can be.
