Water leak scare

This came as a surprise to me so I thought I'd pass it on.

We're getting ready to give up the RV lifestyle and sell the motor-home. I started out with a major clean-up inside. The last job was to shampoo the carpets. The next afternoon, I was in the RV and opened one of the overhead cabinets. All along the underside of the top cabinet frame next to the outside wall were water droplets. I went around and looked at all the cabinets and they were all the same.

The MH has a rubber roof and it's 12 years old. It was over-coated and re-sealed just before we bought it. I wiped off the water all the way through. Since a heavy rain system was due through, I was really concerned.

I checked after the storm and there was no water in any of the cabinets. We had another storm the next day, still no water inside. I finally concluded that the water droplets I found were the condensation from evaporation of the hot water remaining after using the carpet shampooer.

I think the roof will still need work, but it's not the disaster I had feared.
  • That's not a water scare. A water scare is getting a $650 water bill for your vacant home. Called the water company and was told 80, 000+ gallon consumption. Had left the meter on for pool maintainance. Turns out the pool guy left the hose running in the pool for over 10 days. Bad part is that we can't prove that he did it. We only have proof that he didn't do weekly visits. :(
  • I know that gut wrenching feeling all too well. Glad it was a false alarm for you.
  • Sounds like you may be right. Run your AC to get things dry so it doesn't start mildew/mold. Too much dampness inside yet if there were water droplets.
