Went to the Springfield RV & Camping Show

Went the above show yesterday wondering if we'd get the camping bug back. It's been about 10 years since we sold our Endura and do miss the lifestyle but to our surprise we were not invigorated at all to start camping again. We've been fortunate enough to do a lot of air travel and are enjoying it immensely. There were some units we really liked and were amazed at some of the changes in technology but nothing "spoke" to us. We did find a park model we really liked and have decided at some point that might be a nice compromise between camping and buying a lakeside property. I will say we were almost disappointed we didn't get excited to start over but it did at least temporarily close the door on one chapter of our lives.

I know people where I have a seasonal up North that ended up with another seasonal in Florida and they simply drive a car between the two sites. We all find are nitch of what work's for us.

I looked at a site where I had family in Georgia. I drove down for a week for the holidays and it was easier to stay in a motel then pull the RV down for a short time. I went to 4 RV parks and the sites were sandwiched in with little room between them. As I get older I dislike extreme hot/cold weather.

I thought about buying a small house with a yard for the Collies because of the lack of yard space in the campgrounds.

We all find what works best for us.

It makes complete sense to me too, we’re all going through the stages of life and it’s more of a river than a planned destination for most I think, at least for us, situations can change quickly. We went from tents to a pop-up to travel trailers (remember tuning in the Hensley Hitch just right). A couple of years before the 08’ housing/financial crash happened we bought a brand new 40’ four slide 5th wheel with the perfect truck to match planning a 3 month summer vacation with our 3 kids heading west and my work was on cruise control to allow it. Something to really remember. That didn’t work out well not getting to go but looking back some of the best family times we’ve had were camping together. Our oldest DD rowed through high school and her freshman college year with us spending a lot nights in hotel rooms some good some not so good. I can possibly see us buying a small 2 person only Class C sometime in the future but when you run the numbers on cost per year it would buy more nights at 5 star resorts than we would ever have the time to use anyway.

FWIW, completely understand. Spent a long weekend in Seattle area recently and looked at few TT's and 5th Wheels in passing... but, while the travel itch is still there (even for a road trip) the RV interest has declined pretty significantly. Would rather drive and motel, or fly/boat and tent, than do the RV thing again.

The intersection of "doing" vs. "convenience" is changing as age influences us and while we still put some effort into boating or flying, it isn't worth the effort any more for an RV trip when one can do much of the same stuff (on a road system) without needing to "RV".
