I just found a mystery writer named J. Michael Orenduff. His books take place in Albuquerque,New Mexico. The protagonist digs up , replicates and sells Ancient Puebloan pots. There is a ton of info about the area, ancient pueblos , present day puebloan life in the southwest in the books. Excellent series.
Sounds good!
In a similar vein, I highly recommend Stan Jones' novels, featuring detective Nathan Active, an Alaskan Native cop, and Andrea Camilleri's Sicilian Inspector Montalbano. I think we've already talked about Nevada Barr's books. Sense of place, all around!
