What do I need to tow my 2007 Ford Edge 2WD?

I used to pull my HHR behind a gasoline MH using a Roadmaster towbar. Loved that rig,

Now planning to go to a used diesel pusher, and want to pull our automatic transmission 2WD Edge as a dinghy. A few years ago, I thought I had read that it could be used this way, but looking back at the some of the guides, I cannot get confirmation.

If anyone has done it, I'd sure appreciate your observations, recommendations, and precautions.
  • The 2007 Ford Edge is not listed as towable in the 2007 FMCA towing guides.
I have seen them towed, hopefully someone knows more.
  • Your best bet is to read your owner's manual. I have towed a 2011 and 2013 Edge, both front two wheel drive, but that doesn't mean yours can be towed four wheels down.
  • What transmission is in your Edge? If it is the continuously variable version, it can not be towed four down. We had a 2005 Freestyle with that transmission and traded it for a 2008 Taurus X with the six speed auto which is towable four down, The Edge and the Taurus X used the same drive train - your owners manual should have the information you need.

It's the 6F50, not the CVT.
  • Look it up on the REMCO website. There may be a transmission pump for it. If it can be towed without a lube pump, REMCO will say so.
    Good luck.
