Everything I touch, I burn. Seems my oven's too hot, and I have to turn down the temp and move the pan to the top rack to prevent the bottom of everything scorching. I can't bake anything taller than a cake pan.Any suggestions?

Get two or three fire bricks , an unglazed floor tile or a pizza stone. Place that on top of the flame deflector. Then cook away. Most of us have found two problems. One is the uneven heating in an RV oven is cured with mass. Hense the fire bricks. The other problem is the small size of the oven people tend to croud it or place things too far down near the flame.

RV ovens are notorious for having uneven and fluctuating temperatures. One simple solution is to place a pizza stone on the bottom shelf. The pizza stone retains heat and acts to stabalize oven tempuratures.EDIT Sorry for the simultanious post.

In addition to the fire bricks, my wife used parchment paper to prevent burned biscuits.

First you need to get a good oven thermometer and measure the temp in your oven. Run the oven for about an 1/2 hour and look at the thermometer. If you set it for 350° does the thermometer show 350 or higher temperature.Our oven is 25° hotter than the setting so we have learned to live with it. Instead of 350 we set it at 325 when we use the oven. Most of the time we use a countertop convection oven for convenience.An adjustment can be made to reset the oven so that it maintains a near correct temperature. You'll need to look at the owners manual to find the adjustment.

I use an air bake cookie sheet and kit works great.

Do not use the dark non stick baking sheet or pans.
Use the aluminum double bake sheets.

"Glazed tile of any kind should not be used. Glaze contains lead, and when heated to very high degrees inside your oven, the lead could seep into your food.

The smoke alarm should not be used to let you know when things are done. Check what you are baking before it goes off!

(sry - running joke with my wife. our smoke alarm goes off within 5 minutes of lighting the oven or cooktop - even if the oven is empty!)

After purchasing a glazed ceramic floor tile from Home Depot........our oven bakes cookies, biscuits and other goodies without burning.......cost: less than $2.00

I've also found a BIG difference depending on the oven size. We HAD the smaller 17" oven in our TT. Pizza stones etc. helped but DW wanted a bigger oven so I installed the 21" oven. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. It gives more space between the heat shield and rack and more space between the burner and oven bottom. Now we can cook with much less concern on stuff burning. BTW BOTH ovens were about 50F low on temp compared to the dial. 350 on the dial was really 300.

So, if you have the smaller oven, yes, IMHO you absolutely need a pizza stone, bricks or something to distribute the heat. your not alone, your not a bad cook, it's the nature of the beast!!

To solve the dial error I just measured the actual temp for each dial position and then using my Ptouch labeler made new temp labels for each temp.

I use a pizza stone (The fire bricks or unglazed tile, all work the same, variations on the same theme) and a THERMOMEMTER.

Turns out the control knob is a long long way from calibrated. Mine is off 50 degrees at 350.

Thanks all! I'm using all of your suggestions, especially using a pizza stone, but except for cooking outside. Caramel rolls don't do good on a grill, and I wasn't diehard enough to stand outside in the freezing rain last weekend. Times do call for using the oven.

RV ovens can run really hot. Like other poster's have said- set if for 350, get a true reading with an oven thermometer, compensate accordingly. I use a Camp Chef propane oven/grill, and do my cooking outside. I think the RV ovens are inaccurate, too small, heat up the RV, and are hard to clean. I don't use mine.
