Where can I get one

This is going to sound like a stupid question but where can I get a durable picnic tablecloth that will hold up and I would prefer something that is elastic to hold itself on.
  • We bought ours at an RV show years ago. Still looks like new and it comes with seat covers! I forgot the name, maybe I can get it at lunch.
  • I use a homemade clamp that works like a champ, costs pennies each, and can be had in any color.

I went to a big box hardware store and bought a 2' or 3' length of 3" PVC drain pipe. I used my band saw to cut off half a dozen 1/2" wide circles off the end of the pipe, then cut a 1/2" gap in each circle. I left mine white, but you can paint them any color you like.

When I put the table cloth on the table, I spread the gap enough to go over the table top. It works like a champ. I have used them about 5 years now, and if they ever weaken or break, I have enough pipe left to make dozens of replacements.
  • We have vinyl auto upholstery fabric available at Linens & Things or one of the large fabric stores. Avail is several colors and get size you want. Very durable.
  • Also a clamp user but there have been times when I buy a shower curtain to use on the picnic table if it has a better pattern than a tablecloth, store bought or home-made.

It isn't that difficult to alter an existing tablecloth to add elastic to the edges like a fitted sheet if that's what you want.

I lust for old fashioned and still useful oilcloth from this company:

Wouldn't be surprised if the shop's owner would do custom work for you either.
  • I bought some marine grade vinyl upholstery fabric at JoAnn Fabrics and made my own - it's durable, form-fitted to fit a standard 6 foot table, and I embroidered our name onto it for a personal touch. I made the table cover, 2 bench covers, and a bag to store them in, using a color that complemented our motorhome's color.
  • We buy it by the roll (Amazon). It's well worth the 50-60c per table covering to not have an 'expensive' one to wash daily.

We hold it down with 6 cheap spring clamps 79c each at Harbor Freight.
  • Try a contour bed sheet. Can't wipe it off like plastic, but it goes in the laundry; the elastic holds it on the table unless the wind kicks up.
