Where not to picnic GSMP

See the craziest things, sometmes:

Great Smokey National Park, is the most visited National Park, free to the public.

Right on the Gatlinburg side, is a visitor center (info, maps, picnic tables, trails, etcโ€ฆ) before going into the park. Across the street is a RV DUMP STATION nestled in the woods.

This group of Michigan students were having a picnic lunch, a nice sheet out on the ground, a full spread of food โ€“ RIGHT IN THE LUSH FERTILIZED GRASS AREA 3 FEET FROM THE SEWER SYSTEM.

They were a little baffled when RVโ€™s started rolling in.

This guy in front of us, letting them know, โ€œYou know you all are eating next to a sewer. Then as he hooked up his hose (they were still sitting, going to watch), he says โ€“ โ€œTHIS IS THE POOP SHOOT :Eโ€ฆYou may want to move over to that nice hiking trail area across the way.โ€

At that point, they decided to move the lunch.

The Rvโ€™er wraps up his RV dumping duty, and says to us, โ€œHEY meet you all back here at 6 for dinner?!?!"

Honestly, what is the point of this thread?

Did we need ANOTHER excuse for people to post "you can't fix stupid?"

I would like to see a serious discussion about the dangers of the the following setups that feature eating areas very close to sewers:

30 seconds of searching on Google Images founds these pictures from actual RV parks that are no different or worse than the picture in the OP. Where is the outrage?

What does this have to do with the original post?

Furthermore, please show statistics that prove more kids, per capita, were in Scouts, sports, and neighborhoods (huh?) in "your day" than than are now.

I get so tired of this "in my day" mentality, and I'm not even a Millennial.

I would bet that most Millenials can, unlike you, spell "important," or "something," and would never say "reinterating," or "babtized."

I disagree with many points above. I think sometimes we get caught up in our own nostalgia and only see what we want to. There is no shortage of kids playing baseball, football, basketball and soccer around here. Our schools still have boy scouts and girl scouts and other clubs. Sure there may be many in an urban environment that have not been to a "petting zoo" or farm but that can hardly be classified as not exposed to life. There are just as many in rural environments that have never set foot in a museum or other "refined" cultural venue but I would never call them unsophisticated. Our parents dealt with change just as our kids as parents will also deal with change. Just because Billy is not mowing lawns and then spending his 5 cents on a pack of bazooka doesn't mean an entire generation is doomed or lazy.

I don't think it matters, if they know what a dump station is for or not, nor if they can read, I wouldn't want to eat my picnic lunch 10ft from a dumpster, I assume they know what one is.
And for all those worried about the guy handling the hose without gloves, Many people do, besides, being as I don't see anything coming out of the hose, I'm guessing that he hasn't pulled the handle yet.
And as far as the hose with no end, what's the big deal, I have a 10' hose just like it, the end fits down the hole very nicely.

Funny all the comments on the college kids next to the dump station and it took till page 3 before someone commented on the RVer in sandals and bare hands on what looks to be a hose with no end attachment to the dump hole.. LOL

Maybe it's the people that think it's a bio-hazard area just because it's a dump station that are stupid. You may be mortified to know what people in the wastewater industry regularly do; and live to tell about it (without becoming the least bit ill). After all, I don't think they were drinking the water.

Yep Hep C shots, Hep B shots , booster shots after 6 months.
In chest-waders with brown trout floating by while trying to get a lift pump handle because vandals had cut the lock on the lift station gate and stole the stainless steal chains to the lift pump.
It didn't matter if you were in the rich part of town or the poor part cleaning the sewer lines it all smelled the same , only difference it appeared the rich part ate more fiber...

If you ever get change back from a purchase and the coins look kinda ate up they might be from when one of us had turned in all the coins we got after flushing sewer lines then picked out all the coins , ๐Ÿ™‚ (don't worry at least we washed them) over one summer we had collected over $100.00 in coins , a few diamond/gold rings ,few gold ear rings. One watch that was still working several dead cell phones and numerous syringes !! We always watched out for that !

I know I know too much information !!! lol

I remember a neighborhood boy who, during a car ride, saw a cow in a field and exclaimed "Look at that big dog!" Shame.

I agree with you 100% but what the heck does that have to do with this thread?
This is the age of the whimp by the way. We have stress management if a kid doesn't get an ice cream cone. We worry to much about bullys , if anything most of us were better after dealing with them. You are correct about even knowing what outdoors is about or how to swim a mile. I did it all and was an eagle scout with bronze palm, but my dad was the scoutmaster. Dads are not that abundant any more at the dinner table or anywhere else their kids are.
