where to stay

Hi Folks.

Looking for a place to park overnight between Glenns Ferry, ID and Salem, UT (I84). This stretch is comprised of 340 miles. Way to long of a daily drive for us.

We are set up to dry camp/boondock or use an rv park. Have no knowledge of this part of the country. Looking for recommendations from those who have stayed on this stretch.

On our way to Phoenix.

As always, thanks in advance for any help!

You can stay overbite for free at Cabelas. There is one north of Salt Lake, can't remember the name of the town
  • Thanks Folks for the suggestions. Looks like for the distance needed this time, Snowville, UT wins.

Will check out the other places that were recommended.

  • Rock Creek County Park, Twin Falls, ID.; Heyburn City Park, Heyburn, ID.
  • Snowville UT. 163mi from GF. 41.966148, -112.724067 Nice open, flat, cheap park. Just up the road from Flying J

That's a nice place, but he didn't ask for that.
  • Three Island Crossing State Park is in Glenns Ferry. Electric sites are $29/night. Google it and you can find pictures of the park and it isn't a difficult exit from I-84. Fall leaves along the Snake River are getting just about right for viewing. If you use ReserveAmerica, you can make a reservation in advance, if you like. There isn't much in the way of fueling stops between Mountain Home and Jerome (Glenns Ferry is in the middle) so if you need a larger truck stop, you might fill up before or after Glenns Ferry. There's some neat Oregon Trail history associated with Glenns Ferry, so if you have a few minutes, you might explore the park and surrounds.

Also note, that once you get past Burley, ID, there isn't much in the way of services until you get to Tremonton, UT. AND, there is major construction crossing the Snake River east of Burely. They are rebuilding/repaving the bridge decks and traffic narrows to one lane. Shouldn't be a problem, but use caution.

    Safe travels-
    Steve
