Yeti coolers?

Are they worth the high price? I have a 20 year old Coleman Extreme that holds ice for 5+ days in high 80s and 90s.

The nice part about them is they are sturdy enough to act as a seat for somebody too, if you need it. Obviously, that applies to any cooler that doesn't have a top handle, but I feel like the Yetis are extra sturdy.

And, I lied. We don't have the 35. We have the Roadie, so even smaller than the 35.

Definitely not needed most weekend campers. Have you any idea how often you replenish the ice in your Yeti and would it perhaps be a Tundra model? I have read a few magazines review of the product line and think the Tundra will best fit my needs at this point:

Also, the soft side cooler is not worth it, IMO. We have one and other than the fact it really is waterproof both inside and out, it doesn't do that great for keeping things cold for longer terms.
I've come to despise soft sided coolers for any use more onerous than a day trip.

Sorry for the delay, haven't been online in a few days. Yes, we have 3 different Tundras, I believe they're the 35, the 65 and the 105. I don't really know how often we add more ice because there's a lot of variables... temp outside, shade or sun, how often we are opening it, what we're keeping in it, if there's a block of ice in there, etc etc.

I think overall, the 65 is the best size. It was our first one. It balances function with weight... ie we can still lift it when it's full. The 105 gets REAL heavy once you fill it up with ice and drinks, it's best for the longer trips where we just leave it sitting in the garage of our toyhauler. The 35 is definitely on the small side, but good for a day trip when it might have to sit in a hot car somewhere, or I occasionally use it when I'm going to a farmer's market or some other grocery store that isn't that close to home. I just leave it in the trunk without ice and it keeps things cold for the drive home.

And, for the record, they were all purchased with Cabela's points. My husband travels for work and uses his Cabela's card for everything. The only thing I've paid for in cash was the straw and lid for the large tumbler, it was $10 or something.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question and sharing your experience with Yeti:).

We ordered a modified teardrop TT earlier this year and plan to use it for cross continent travel for a year or two. Already had them change the 3.5 or .8 fridge to an all freezer unit but that means we still need somewhere to store fresh produce and dairy products which is where the cooler could come into play.

I know what you mean about the weight of the 100 qt version when filled; I've one that size from Coleman, ugh.

The 35 or 45 qt is prolly the right size to fit in the space the D/R table used to occupy (also being ditched during customization) and best for 2 people. We expect to have a granddaughter travel w/ us from time to time but I'm really concentrating on the core users.

I do have Yeti mugs and can cozies and they are awesome, just very pricey. But, look at RTIC equipment, said to be just as good at half the price.
Just purchased 2 RTIC 20oz mugs at Buc-Cees in Bastrop, Tx. I think they are awesome and I only paid $9.99 each for them.

Just picked up a RTIC 30 oz mug for $11.99 today on Amazon deal of the day.

I too saw the hype in ads. Large sturdy and thick but as it turns out there are otherss who hold the cold like the Yeti is supposed to, or at leas t approach it and cheaper.
There was a link to a comparison tests, here, on the forums, I believe some time ago.
For as much as they want for the larger coolers in particualr I've seen samll freezer/refrigerators for sale, the kind you would want to put in a bay, of the coach. Been some time though.

we have 2 Colemans from way back. heck they have lasted forever ๐Ÿ™‚
1 big, one smaller for easy travel and pickup. they hold ice well.

I 'might' buy a Yeti IF we ever need a new one, but I don't buy things just cause I can, I use what I bought from long ago and use it til it breaks beyond use....so our Colemans might outlive us maybe ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I kept my pink sun faded coleman and now sky blue faded igloo coolers and bought a portable ice maker from cabelas. Ice whenever I want it and no more yelling at the kids to "keep that lid shut"!

I won my Polaris cooler this year when I donated $20 for a raffle ticket. No way would I spend $280 for a cooler. Getting ready to travel and camp in Co for a month. Since our tow car is a old soft side jeep I plan on locking it to the metal side bar.

If I'm not mistaken, Consumer Reports said the Ozark Trail 30oz. insulated tumbler ($9.74 @ walmart) kept ice longer than the Yeti.

I stand corrected! In that case my beer will be gone in 10 minutes! :B

Talking about the bigger coolers Yeti VS RTIC looks like comes down to Made in USA VS Made in China. Is now the time for the buy only Made in USA stuff to bite the bullet, or buy the cheap made in china junk??

This is an example of how everybody complains about stuff made in China but when it comes time to put up the money they don't want to pay the USA prices.

Most Yetis are made in the Philippines.

so he was correct, it isn't Chinese junk. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had no idea this was going to be such a lively topic!! Anyway, I appreciate all the feedback. You guys just saved me some $$$. Well, Cabelas Bucks anyway!!! I filled my Coleman Extreme for a camping trip last Monday and decided to see just how long the ice will last. Today is day 7 and it still has grapefruit chunk of ice. It is sitting outside behind the house, morning sun and afternoon shade. Temps just shy of 100. I think I all ready have a great cooler. As I said earlier this one is 20 years old. Wonder if the new ones are as good or got cheapened up?
