I haven't read the actual law here in NJ, but they let me pump my own gas on the MC. Pretty sure it's technically illegal but they don't want to mess with it and I don't want them to.

We were not allowed to pump our diesel, at the only place we've ever need fuel in Or.

And remember the new law only applies to rural areas. no in any cities

Was there back in 2011, and couldn't believe they don't let you pump your own. Luckily we were just passing through, and didn't need any gas, just the restrooms. I remember thinking at the time, how do I know who I'm handing my keys (locking gas cap/filler door) or cash/credit card to, when someone dressed casually walks up to my window and asks "fill 'er up?". There were at least a dozen young folks hanging around the pumps, and they all looked like they might be pump jockeys. I'm pretty sure they weren't.

I just open the gas door and put the credit card in the pump. All they required was they handle the nozzle.

If you do all that, why not do the pump handle, too? :h
Mike. Comments are anecdotal or personal opinions, and worth what you paid for them.

You are allowed to pump diesel but not Gas? I guess they felt only truckers would need to and they were skilled and smart enough to handle the 100 year old technology..

The LAW which was passed back in 1951 prohibited anyone other then owner, operator or employee to dispense class 1 flammable liquids
Gasoline is a Class I Flammable Liquid
Diesel is a Class II Combustible Liquid...therefore Exempt from the 'No Pumping' Law
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Was there on a business trip years ago. Stopped at a station and started to pump my own gas. Had no idea what attendantโ€™s problem was when he ran out yelling for me to stop.

LOL, really? Here's what I do. I drive in and sit for 30 secs to a minute and then realize I can pump my own.
I used to do that on occasion, not anymore. DW and I would get a good laugh. As an Oregon lifer I love driving to other states and being able to pump my own gas when the weathers nice. In case you didn't know it rains a lot in Oregon from Nov to April. I enjoy sitting in my dry warm truck while letting someone else pump my gas.
I rode motorcycles for 12+ years and in Oregon you can pump your own gas if on an MC. Most every attendant didn't want to get the pump handle anywhere near my gas tank. Also I can pump my own diesel if I want. I don't though. Last summer we did a 4 state trip and found the price of diesel to be almost exactly the same in the pump your own states as here in Oregon.
The one draw back to pumping diesel at some spots was the mess on the ground and the messy pump handle.

NJ is the only other state where you can't pump your own gas. Well, you can but it's illegal and the station gets fined. That makes them angry so I just let them pump it.
