First let me say I have used KOA campgrounds for 30 + years all over the western United States. My wife and I drove up to the Cloverdale Ca KOA campgrounds 6/23/14 turned around and drove out for these reasons. 1st the road in there was rough with potholes that you could damage a tire in. 2nd the trees are so over grown and low if I hadn't been watching damage to the roof of our 5th wheel would have been costly. I try to keep my 5th wheel in good shape I use it but don't abuse it , if your like me and you want to keep your RV in good shape steer clear of Cloverdale KOA.

We stoped one day to check out a KOA in CT. It was horrible. I contacted KOA and they told me they were in the process of revoking that campground's KOA afficiliation. Sure enough it was dropped from their website.
See you on the road!

Did you post this on www.rvparkreviews.com? Many people use that website for info on campgrounds. We have fulltimed since 2006 and have only stayed twice in a KOA, just for the reasons you state. Many are poorly maintained and still charge more than a reasonable price. They all have ridiculous add on fees. We stayed in one in West Virginia in 2011, they wanted a $3 fee to give us the gate code if we went out of the campground.

After reading through the reviews for the Cloverdale KOA on the KOA website, it appears to me the management either doesn't care about the condition of the campground or doesn't have the funding for the upkeep.

I'm guessing many of the out of the way private campgrounds are suffering financially due to the current economy and fuel costs.
