Point Beach SP and Mill Creek Camp

We are planning out a route now to goto Mackinaw Mill Creek Camp in Mackinaw City, MI for half a week and the other half (or so) at Point Beach SP in Two Rivers, WI.

Never been to either and thought I'd ask for opinions...what to expect and all. Just looking for simple relaxation, a jaunt to Mackinac Island. 2 adults, 2 kids 11.5 and 6
  • It makes a significant difference in the travel between which side of the Straight you are on. For that reason (as much as I liked Mill Creek) St. Ignas has a leg up.

If you plan to do the between in a single day from anywhere, it will be a long day.

  • Thanks all for the info! Appreciate the local pizza place info -- we love eating at local places! All good stuff...will be booking today/tomorrow.

    THANKS A TON.
  • Point Beach is one of our favorite parks - and we've camped in virtually every Wisconsin SP/SRA in the southern half of the state. Very heavily wooded. Not worth your while, IMO, to opt for the electric-water sites; they're much closer together & less private than the electric-only ones. DO make reservations. Some sites are too small for anything but popups and tiny camping trailers, and you don't want to get stuck with one of them.

Mackinac Island is another of my favorite places! We didn't especially like Mill Creek, but our FHU site had no privacy and was really close to other ones; other sites in this HUGE CG are nicer, woodsier, etc. Another good choice might be Straits SP (outside of St. Ignace) It's an attractive CG and has electric sites. Again, reservations a must, I would think.
  • Also it is worth getting up early and watching the sunrise. If you have a dog they have a beach area for them. We couldn't get into Point Beach this year so we are staying at Scheffel's hideaway campground.

x2! The Maritime Museum is a worthwhile visit. Its only about 20 minutes from Point Beach. Beautiful bike trail, yes. Relatively flat, good for all ages. Point Beach is one of our favorite WI SPs. Its a great place to relax. There is 6 miles of beach and you can usually hear the waves crashing at night from just about anywhere in the campground.

Buy your wood outside the park. Lots people sell it cheap all up and down HWY O. There is a great family pizza restaurant just south of the park entrance called Port Sandy Bay. Not fancy, but great food.

  • Great -- that's what we saw online on Mill Creek's website. Glad for a confirmation.
  • We enjoyed our stay at Mill Creek. We were in the area by the cabins. Area 16 or 17 with full hookups. Huge place, lots to do. Shuttle to ferry.
