Bud had been doing well on the pheno until yesterday. While I was at the dentist Bud had a seizure and took him the rest of the evening to recover. Today he is still is having a difficult time with balance.Well just a few moments ago he had another seizure. I talked to the vet yesterday and think it may indeed be a tumor. His quality of life is going down hill. This is very difficult for me. I wish there was more I could do.

So sorry to hear about the seizures. My spaniel started getting them and seemed like the seizures were coming closer together. His dr. Said his were due to CHF.I could see them coming on and would just gently lay him down and hold him until he came out of it.sometimes it was on the side of the street where we were walking. I felt so helpless and could just hold him and assure him I was there and keep talking to him. Just our love to help them through it.

Have you tried honey or glucose (comes in a tube from Walgreens/Walmart) after the seizure? It stabilizes the blood sugar after a seizure. My dog was cluster seizing for 24 hours with no end in sight, till I started that. It reduced the frequency of his seizures till they were manageable.

So sorry to hear he had another seizure.:( I was just wondering about him the other day since you had not posted lately.

Has your vet added potassium bromide to the therapy yet?

Here's a real good link that I think explains seizure therapy to help the 'owner' to make decisions and be able to discuss it with your vet on what course to take next. Print it out and go over it with your vet.

Hope everything works out and you can get the seizures under control. Do 'not' give up until you have exhausted all avenues.

I've seen many dogs with far worse seizures where it did take quite a bit of time adjusting, adding and trying different meds and the outcome was successful in controlling them.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I agree with Rita. Ask your vet about alternate medications.

Perhaps another anti seizure drug could be tried. My dog was on valium for years, and this seemed to lessen the frequency of the seizures. He ended up having only 1 or 2 a year. Ask your vet if this is a possibility. Perhaps you need a second opinion from another vet. Then there's always the vet schools, which are expensive but worth the try because they usually have the latest treatments and drugs. Sending prayers and hugs, and don't give up! We're all pulling for Bud and you!
