Camping with dog breeds considered dangerous

Yes. If you try to stop at a place they are not allowed

It is the insurance company that dictates those restrictions and camp ground owners have little choice..

It's not the campground that considers certain breeds as dangerous it is their liability insurance carrier's restrictions. The insurance company will cancel a campgrounds liability insurance if the campground does not follow the restrictions...dog breeds, kids on motorized vehicles, skateboards, scooters...etc. Liability insurance is difficult to get so the campgrounds follow the rules set down by the insurance company to remain protected.

Yea I am familiar with the insurance companies paranoia. We had to change insurance on our homeowners policy because of our dogs, the other is a Rhodesian Ridge Back. Finally found an insurance company out of Indiana that was used to rural people, they were fine with our dogs, gave us a quote that was less expensive than what we were paying with more coverage than the old company.

I have a Doberman and have been up and down the east coast and a bit to the west as well. I have no issues finding spots however there are a handful of places that ban Doberman's in my area. KOA's DC, KOA Harpers Ferry and Castaways in OC, MD to name a few. There are always easy alternatives. I consider it their loss not mine. In the end it is not really a major issue.

"Ignorant fear" is a poor term to use. There are dogs that are dangerous due to the physical strength, not necessarily their disposition. But when those breeds do have an aggressive disposition, they can certainly be dangerous. It happens regularly. Just because someone's precious doberman, or pit bull, or such is their baby does not make the issue "ignorant fear". You are probably more likely to get bitten by a small high strung dog. But the result is much less severe.

Insurance and liability issues are real. As a small business owner myself, I know what the consequences can be of an event most would considered an insignificant issue. It can lead to a nightmare situation for the business owner.

So yes, you will encounter places that simply prohibit dogs that could be considered dangerous. Along with any other activity that could fall in the same category.

I like the fact that campgrounds take this position. There are so many nice breeds of dogs to choose from, these dangerous breeds keep sane people uneasy when they are around. Don't need them!

I hear you on the liability thing but banning based on breed is silly. There are lots of larger dogs that could cause just as much damage as a Doberman if they attacked someone.
Either the dog is trained or they are not. Distinguishing by breed has nothing to do with training.
Nevertheless I understand sometimes insurance companies dictate the rules.
What is silly is a dog maybe banned at one place but I can drive a mile down the road or across the street and he is welcomed without issue.
In the end I have no problem finding a CG willing to take my $$$

The sane people I know are always sane. Dog around or not.
If the mere presence of a dog causes one to lose their sanity. Maybe they were not so sane in the first place:h

Whether the rule is silly or not is not the issue. Either for insurance reasons or because of the campground's owners rules, there is a pet limitation. I've seen limitations on pets over 20lbs, and breed limitations. You will not be welcome in these campgrounds and if spotted you may be asked or forced to leave. Taking you well trained dog is great, it just means you will have to do some extra research and/or make phone calls to make sure you are welcome.
