COVID sniffing dogs

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat are bringing back some fans, with help from some dogs.

The Heat will use coronavirus-sniffing dogs at AmericanAirlines Arena to screen fans who want to attend their games. They've been working on the plan for months, and the highly trained dogs have been in place for some games this season in which the team has allowed a handful of guests -- mostly friends and family of players and staff.

Any chance they could train dogs to sniff for corruption? We could use some of those in D.C. ;)

  • Why? The FDA has not given EAU for diagnosing covid in patients using trained dogs.

The dogs are trained to identify those with symptoms and are positive by the RT-PCR test. I’ve not seen any published studies evaluating if the trained dogs can identify people who are asymptotic RT-PCR positive.

I’ve not seen any published studies where trained dogs were evaluated for identifying covid vs flu vs pneumonia vs common cold vs allergies, etc.

That offers a lot quicker diagnosis than the nasal test. If the dogs really can do it, why are people lined up in their cars for tests?
  • Great idea. I like the forehead fever readers too. Whether it's COVID or not people who are running a fever have no business going to the store or to an entertainment event. Fever means infection. Stay home and get well for your own sake and the sake of others.
