Cyst on lower eyelid

My 5 yr old English bull dog has developed a cyst like sore on her lower eye lid. I took her to the local vet here and all she did was put her on an antibiotic for 7 days. Well the 7 days are up and if anything the sore is worse. We are leaving tomorrow in the RV and I already booked a Vet for next Tuesday while on the road. . My question is a Vet the place to go or should I be looking for an animal hospital type since the cyst is so close to her eye?
  • I had a dog years ago who developed a cyst on her lower eyelid. Our regular vet removed it. It wasn't a big deal at all.
  • We just had to put our Bichon mix down due to salivary gland tumors around her eyes (I know that sounds weird). It started with the right eyeball protruding due to a tumor behind the eye. That was removed four years ago. Then the tumors returned around both eyes, including the left lower eyelid. I would not wait around. Find a veterinary ophthalmologist and get a consultation.
  • A regular vet/hospital should be able to handle this. Cysts/masses on the eyelids are pretty common, sometimes require surgical removal. On the lower lids are not as problematic as on the upper lid as they usually don't contact the cornea.

If problems persist or return, a referral to a specialist is probably in order.
