Dang Kid, and His Pills

Reading about the difficulties folks have, in regards to giving their pet/s their medication / pills. I'm extremely glad, I don't have that problem with the Kid. Fur Pete's sake, he takes 8 to 9 pills a day!

Side note: I have no idea who Pete is, BTW. ... :B

However, I finally figured out why, I don't have that problem.

I think The Dang Kid thinks, his pills are snacks!...

Why do I think that? ... All I gotta say (at any given time) is, want your pills? And the Dang Kid will drop his ball to take his pills. AND, he doesn't drop his ball fur nothing, or nobody!

If I lay his pills in front of him. He'll sniff'um, and wait for me to give it to him. I still have to place them in the back of his tongue, but no complaints, nadah. Just takes'um.

Ours also seems to think they are snacks. If we happen to get something new and she will not take it, we wrap it in a partial slice of cheese and suddenly it also becomes s snack.

Since we have 4 dogs I've noticed that the pills go down quicker if the other three are eyeballing the one getting the pill!

Same for our fur kid. He has been on pills for a month for an allergy. A dab of peanut butter started him, now, he just licks them up like candy. Go figure? But he has always been a good friend.

Good boy, Calvin!! Ike was always a good sport about having a pill stuffed down his throat, too. Fortunately, Jimmy and Ben will swallow something whole if it's wrapped in cheese - Ike always chewed his food and would spit out a disguised pill.

Lucky you! Our old dog Smokie always found new and creative ways to hold the pill and spit it out when he thought we weren't looking. Snack rewards, pb, you name it, we tried it. We finally resorted to grinding it and hiding it in a tablespoon of sulfured blackstrap molasses which he loved.

Ha!

Do you give him treats afterwards for taking his pills?

Our furkid is diabetic and since we need to give him shots, we used to give him a small treat afterwards. Now all we need to say is "Time for your shot" and he'll get up and come over because he knows he'll get rewarded after the shot.

We jokingly say "we have to shoot the dog".

Always fun with these kids! 🙂
