- nineoaks2004ExplorerLuckily we do not seem to have the Lone Star ticks, however we do have the deer ticks and I have gotten Lyme Disease four times, but got it as soon as the rash appeared and took the meds. for it. I keep a lookout for ticks as Lyme disease scares me to death.
- TennesseeTExplorerWe live in Tennessee and have a close friend who has the alpha-gal meat allergy from the lone star tick bite.
- OaklevelExplorerNot uncommon to get them after doing yard work here in SW Virginia have had several different species of tick this years to be removed......
- coolmom42Explorer IIThey are very common in TN. I spray my pants, shoes, & socks before going into the woods, always wear long pants & high top shoes. The Forestry people in this area use repellent collars for large dogs, worn outside their pants legs.
Always check all over after you get out of the woods/grass. - AZPopsExplorer

When we ordered a flea & tick collar for our Golden, my wife asked if she should order two, one for me also. It seems I can't go into the woods these days without finding a tick or two crawling on me. I hate those things. :Mdturm wrote:
We learned about many species of ticks including the lone star. But, I have never heard about them causing an allergy to beef.
I'd be in big trouble :)
Well DOC, you could try accidentally getting some Advantix on you. You know, just incase. ... :B

Never had any around here years ago. Now I can't get away from them.
If their bite would make me allergic to sweets and other snack foods, it might keep me healthier. :B
Did the flea and tick collar work?

The interesting part is this reaction was first identified in patients being treated for cancer with Cetuximab (an antibody used as a drug) which has "galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose on the Fab portion of the cetuximab heavy chain".
That's not good, are they using/prescribing an alternative drug?

- BCSnobExplorerI know someone in central VA who has had this issue long before the cause was identified.
