How Do You Handle Litter Odor?

I have two cats and I am loathe to let them go. Does anyone else have cats they take with them? If so, how do you handle the litter? They are well-behaved and unobtrusive animals, so I don't expect they'd be much of a problem other than litter box odor.

Litter box odor is a problem in my apartment - and I'm sure it is significantly bigger than a travel trailer! Ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

I've got 4 cats I take with me. My daughter and son-in-law previously owned my MH. He cut an opening on the bed frame close to the head of the bed large enough for the kitties to enter and go to the litter box under the bed. They also plugged in a soft night light so the kitties could see easier.

I use the Special Kitty Scoopable with baking soda and clean it first thing in the morning and the last thing at night before bedtime. It's unlikely, but if I detect any odors, I will sprinkle in more baking soda (from Dollar Tree...cheap). I add more Special Kitty as needed until the end of the month when I'll dump everything, wash the box with warm water and Dawn, dry, and start all over.

There's no way I'd get rid of or leave behind my little traveling companions...I love them too much.

How Do You Handle Litter Odor?

I don't. I despise cat odor and even worse the perfume smell of litter.

So my answer to the problem I had at hand was:
Spend about 100 bucks buying all the different brands of cat litters to find one that doesn't allow odor to escape AND one that does not make your MH smell like a giant perfume factory.

I placed my cat with a new family before I hit the road full time and at the last minute his new owners backed out on me the day of the closing of my house!! Sooo, I had to find a cat litter that really worked so well that I didn't know it was in my MH or the cat was not going with period!

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

We have 2 cats....been hauling them around for 9 yrs. I've asked friends if they can smell their litter box in our rig......they say no. First, we use Arm and Hammer litter for multiple cats. AND we clean out the clumps every night. About once a month, we take all the litter out and I clean the plastic box with soap and then vinegar. 🙂 We don't have room anywhere except at the end of the dresser (back wall) in our rig for the box. We found a litter box with 3 sides up --- not a dome.....most cats don't like the dome. Yes, litter gets on the floor.....but we love our cats and we're full-timers. 🙂

Some people have cut openings thru the floor of a cabinet allowing access to a storage bay. They then put the litter box in the bay and cat has free access from inside. To clean - open bay - clean and replace. You would have to take a door off the cabinet, or build a kitty door into the cabinet door to allow cat to get in cabinet and down into bay.

Henry (cat) goes along with us. Frequent cleaning is a must in such a small confined area. We keep the litter box in the bathroom when under way and in an unobtrusive area when parked.

We use a clumping litter and it has fairly good odor control, in fact the fragrance from the litter is potent enough that it is a little offensive when the RV is closed up. We're trying a fragrance free variety and will report back.

We use a covered litter box with a charcoal filter. You can still smell them even if you scoop them daily. Have you looked into training them to use the toilet in the RV?
