Litter Boxes in RVs

My wife and I are soon going to be full timing for a few months and are wondering what others use for litter boxes in RVs. We will be living in a fifth wheel and want to keep everything clean and smelling good. A standard litter box seems like it might be messy in an RV, but the enclosed ones would use up a lot of space. I know some of you are very creative problem solvers and have overcome this already.

We put Opie the cat's box in a shallow box that was larger than the litter box. As Opie had his own bunk it did not take up too much room on the floor.
The box came from the supermarket where it had arrived holding bags of fruit.

Since we also had dogs that enjoyed kitty pootreats, we needed to have a way to restrict access to the dogs but also give our 19 year old cat access. The lower shelf of one of the cupboards was at floor level and a litter box fit nicely info the corner. When we were on the road, the cupboard door was closed. When parked, the door was open enough to let kitty in but dogs out. Worked great!

Just lifted the litter box out to clean it. There was linoleum on the floor in the cupboard so cleaning was easy. Our fifth wheel has lots of storage area so I didn't miss having that cupboard area.

We have a huge cat and use a mortar mixing box as a litter box. Large with deep sides

We did a similar thing with one of our storage areas under a bed. Removed the access door, put in a side wall to block off the rest of the storage area, and hung a curtain for private access. Works great and we never smell a thing.

We have dedicated the area under one of our dinette seats for the large box we have. It get's cleaned every morning and that keeps the smell very much under control. The access door to this storage area was removed to allow the cats access.

Henry is a large cat, so we have to have a pretty good sized litter box with high sides. We didn't want to change things and make it a big adjustment from home, so we just got the same type that we use at home. We just deal with the fact of living in a relatively small space with a cat, vacuum every day and place litter box in the most convenient place for us.

The biggest thing we had to deal with was the scented litter in the smaller enclosed area of the motorhome. The brand we use at home was just overpowering and offended us. We now use Cats Pride light and fragrance free and find it does a great job with odors without overpowering us with perfume.
