Mark, how soon new waggly tails?

We recently changed the style of ear tags we use for our ewes; bigger tags with bigger numbers.

We keep most of the lambs till after our sheepdog trial in late September. We often take some lambs (ones that need to be dewormed frequently) to market mid summer.

& toward the end you must prove that you've still got very good eyes.

My cataracts got demanding mid-cross continent trip, especially after dark.

How much longer will you have this year's lambs?

Busy 2 days on the farm for my wife (while I'm at my day job). After my last post 2 more lambs died having similar symptoms to one that died earlier. We suspect tetanus. Yesterday and today all the lambs are being inoculated with tetanus anti-toxin and vaccinated (procedure recommend by our friend a large/small animal vet). This involves catching each of the 106 lambs (they can be quite fast), injecting each twice (one shot in each back leg), recording the ear tag number, and marking the lamb with a color crayon. In the beginning this is easy since all need to be caught. Towards the end it get more difficult since you must catch the ones out of the 106 that are not marked.

Sorry, I missed the 'dog on guard' post. Actually, when I drive by the near to me flock, I am used to seeing guard dogs lying down, but watching me. If I stop for a flock photo, they come over to the road and tell me to 'BEAT IT, NOW!

With all the ewes and lambs locked in barnyard after the snow we took a good look at the ewes that have not lambed. We have one pregnant ewe left to go.

We have 106 lambs; 4 have died (at birth or several days later)
