Movies & whiny dog

I wonder if there are sounds, either too high, or too low, for us lowly humans to hear...that she's picking up on?? Who knows - maybe there are sounds that are causing her pain?? Try not using the surround sound system as an experiment - and see if that makes a difference?

The other thought is that she's picking up on vibrations from the subwoofer - and that's spooking her??

And one last thought: maybe she picks up on your fear/apprehension during perilous scenes in movies? My late Aussie, at times, would stand and snarl at the TV screen if something was "scaring" the grandkids....LOL!!

I agree with Deb & Ed. Perhaps your DVD player is putting off sound at a frequency too high or low for human ears, but that she finds extremely upsetting or annoying. Very high pitched sounds may make her whine and howl. Very low pitched sounds can mimic earthquake vibrations and make her take cover under something sturdy and whine.

This might be a long shot, BUT, maybe the wiring is not right and she's picking up a slight shock or hum, that you can't feel or hear. I've heard of this being the reason that some dogs don't want to use the metal steps to climb in the RV.

We put on our Bose sound bar last night to listen to a Doobie Brother's concert on T.V., and both of our dogs went on super high alert. It took them several minutes before they settled down. The difference in the richness and depth of sound must be the triggering factor.

She even acts that way with a normal movie on the t.v. , doesn't matter what kind of movie either. We have tried not using surround sound and lights on and it makes no difference.

Just to tag onto this topic, do any others here have a dog that watches TV? One of our Cavaliers(Maggie), watches it and will always bark when a dog or cat is shown, whether its a commercial or a regular program. She actually jumps out of the chair, runs toward the TV, looks up and starts barking. Most times, its pretty Funny :-)

Maybe the TV is making weird sounds then?? I'm just grasping at straws....

Same Aussie used to freak during the weigh-ins on "Biggest Loser"...but I can explain that by the beepbeepbeep sound is similar to a smoke detector going off. So I'd have to mute the TV during those moments - at least until he lost his hearing.

Could be that we can't hear. Misty likes watching t.v. And it doesn't bother her at all.

Perhaps in addition to the surround sound, it could just be too loud.

Funny, Dudley Howls every time a baby cry's or Children Laugh on the TV. Which in turn sets Summer off and she has this really shrill like howl (shes a little girl) its actually funny, almost like having our own band.
