That's why I only use the battery-operated Dremels. The corded ones are too noisy (which scares many dogs) and too dangerous if they get caught in fur.
An often-used trick for long-haired dogs is to slip an old (or cheap new) knee-high panty hose over the foot. The nails will poke through but the hose will hold the fur back. It's also easier to keep the fur away if the foot is wet.
