Question on Freeze Alarm/Cobra PhoneLynx Temperature Sensor

To protect our cats and dog in the RV, we have just purchased a Control Products Freeze Alarm and Cobra PhoneLynx to attach the system to a spare cell phone via bluetooth. According to the literature, the system will call you if the temperature goes outside of the set range. This works great for us. However, you are suppose to be able to call into the system remotely to check system status. That is not working for us. When we call into the cell number attached to the alarm system, we end up in that phone's voicemail as the alarm does not pick up. Now when we set up the alarm phone, we had not initial installed the Cobra PhoneLynx Android application on that phone. Not sure if that is the problem or if we are just not doing something else correctly. To anyone who uses this set up, can you call into your system remotely? If so, how did you set it up? Any recommendations?
  • Oh in case anyone is still watching this thread, I finally purchased a dedicated phone for my alarm. Its from Page Plus Cellular...they have a 100 minute plan for 10 bucks that is good for 4 months....so 30 bucks a year covers the cost and its on the Verizon towers to boot.
  • "Chuggs"....that's interesting about the problems with dialing into
the phone lynx. I seem to always have trouble with getting the system to recognize my Pin code when dialing remotely whereas hardwired, its accepts the Pin readily. Guess I'll have to figure the out, I seemed to have misplaced my instructions.
  • Some of those alarms are old school.

Check into all the new real time alarms/home surveillance systems that can all be used with your smart phone for the RV also.

There are numerous ones to choose from and they are now real affordable to the average buyer. Plenty of them out there now also that do not require a monthly fee either. And yes there are apps for that too! Stay away from any of them that say pet monitoring , they cost 4 times more and they are the same as the ones stating for kid and home surveillance.

Something as simple as a cheap nanny cam pointed at a thermometer with maybe a lamp plugged in and on behind it in the RV would work. All viewable thru your smart phone. Those nanny cam kits are dirt cheap now. Even the ones that require a laptop, we all have tablets with us so that would work too for the RV.

If the temps started raising on the thermometer or the light on the lamp was off, you'd know the ac and/or power had shut down to the your coach.

Buy 2 nanny cams and you get to enjoy watching all what your dog does in the MH while your are gone purely for amusement factor! :B
  • The freeze alarm has a setting for answer on number of rings as well...I have that set to the lowest setting.

On another note... You may have a problem if the DTMF tones are not set to LONG, when trying to cancel an alarm condition, or accessing the menu remotely from an outside cellphone line.
  • Thanks. We use Verizon as well, I bet that is it. Brewjaz I would recommend this setup. The call out is flawless
  • I have one of these freeze alarms with the Cobra PhoneLynx and it works great. You need to change the number of rings it takes for your cellphones voicemail to pickup. I know with Verizon you have to call customer service for them to do it.
  • Sorry I can't help but it sounds like something I would want because of my dogs. I worry about the A/C going off in the camper when I'm away if it's hot out. As it is I only let them alone for no more than a half hour during the day or a bit longer in the evening if I have to.
