16" -5 hole rims?

I had an OLD 1970's era, 20' Terry Brand RV, it went to the dump and the sawzall came out.

A short time later, I had a 8'x 20" empty dual axle w/electric brakes bare frame sitting there.
This frame has 5 hole/15" tires/rims/axles.

Being that I have numerous 16", 10 ply lightly used LT tires, that I want to use on this frame, to give a tougher tire option.
BUT, I cannot find ANY 16"-5 hole rims any where.

It appears that I will have to change the 15" -5 hole axles/rims/wheels to 16"-6 hole wheels/rims, unless I find a solution?

ANY ideas/suggestions on how to convert to the 16" tires I want to use???????

Tia,
Don

I did that with my old TT. Had a friend who is a Ford hoarder. Needed a spare tire and rim, and the Ford rim fit like a glove. Then traded him my four 15" rims for four 5 bolt 16" Ford rims and bought new LT tires for them. Was a perfect fit.

That TT should have 3500# axles. The 5 lug and 6 lug drums are interchangeable and pretty cheap.
They even came with new bearings, seal and lug nuts when I did it.
  • Landrover rims are all 5 bolt on 6.5 pcd, most were 16 inch and quite narrow, so might work for you. Sorry just noticed you measured the PCD and it was 4.5.
  • Can't you replace everything from the spindles out? You should be able to find new hubs that would fit the spindles, maybe with disc brakes.

If you can get some info on the axles, you may be able to get new brake drums with a bolt pattern that will work.

This is how I would try to remedy the situation. Etrailer.com is a good source for what you need.

  • Smkettner,
    Thanks for the info.

Just measured the axle, bolt pattern is 5 on 4.5".

Those 16" rims are just 1" TOO big, at 5 on 5.5".

I may have to change the spindle/drum to the larger size of 6 on 5.5", which means I'll have to change out the electric brakes etc.
