2008 Winnebago. No hot water. No pilot light

Trying to help a traveling companion who, since last night has lost hot water. It is his son's motorhome, borrowed for this trip and noone here seems to have any answers.

The panel indicates No Pilot Light. I don't really think, in this model that there is an actual pilot light, per se. There is plenty of gas. I'm trying to find the switch to turn on the electric element or resolve the pilot light issus.

The water heater on this gasoline model is located left of the entry door but I see no way to remove the panel. The bypass valve is located to the left (behind) the heater but I see no switch to change over to electric heat. We are all totally unfamiliar with the Winnebago. All of the breakers are closed. There is one switch on the wall says electrical water heater and has a red light in the switch and is turned on.

Any help would be appreciated.
  • IF it is an Atwood then the Fault Light (Red Light) indicates:

    1) Main gas flame failed to light off and prove it lit
    OR
    2) The ECO (high temp t-stat) opened. (water would be really HOT because normal t-stat failed)

IF is is a combo gas/electric water heater the electric element is on backside under a cover near bottom center of tank.....
Should have a dual On/OFF switch panel with fault light between switches.

To clear fault light......turn ON switch OFF
IF has electric ........turn electric switch ON

IF you want to try propane again.......
    Have someone outside by burner
    Turn switch ON
    Does spark electrode fire......click/click/click
Does main flame light at all?
If it lights does it engulf the electrode?.....needs to so circuit board sees flame and keeps gas valve open

Please find the Make/Model of this Water Heater and post it here. You should be able to find it on the outboard side of the unit, under the metal cover on the outside of the coach. Look up Troubleshooting and Service Manuals at Chris Bryant's Site
  • Winnebago does not make water heaters! It's either an Atwood or Suburban. Which is it?

We haven't even figured out how to put ii on the heater yet.

Model numbers found in outside compartment on paper sticker

    Suburban examples......... SW6D, SW6DE, SW6DM and SW6DEM
    Atwood examples............G6a-7P, G6a-7E, GC6a-7E

    Suspect you have an Atwood
  • Found the book. Turned the switch off for 5 minutes and it started right up.

    Thanks.
