Add - Mod an On/off Freezer switch on a Dometic Fridge?

We have a Winnie Micro Minnie 1706fb which came with a Dometic fridge (DM2652RBX). This fridge has a separate freezer up top, with its own door.
It is a dual gas/electric fridge.
This is a very basic model without any controls on the thermostat side of things, but merely a plastic slide by the cool baffles that slides the thermostat either closer or farther away from them. Seems a bit Flinstone!
For a variety of reasons, we would like to turn the freezer off, when we won't need it, which is the majority of the time. The freezer is always very cold, and the fridge just ok, when set at the "highest setting" on the flinstone slide adjustment.
Is it possible to add a switch anywhere that would turn the freezer off?
  • Not possible...
The cooling coils go to the freezer first, then the lower compartment
Not separate systems, can not be turned off
  • However fill the freezer with cardboard or airbags or styrofoam to cut down on heat gain. Your fridge will use less power.
  • Thank you all so much for all your kind help.
I will try to fill up the freezer and test.
    All the best
    Cheers
  • Back on the farm, as we unloaded our 26cu ft chest freezer we would fill the vacant space with newspaper and milk jugs filled with water. A space filled with solid objects hold the cold and reduces compressor running.

Sorry, the RV refers run according to he BOTTOM refer(where the temp Thermister is). The freezer has nothing to do with the unit running cycles. RV refers operate totally different than a compressor type residential refer except the single door dorm types that have he small freezer shelf for ice cube making. Doug
  • But, once the freezer is down to temp, the liquid ammonia will not have enough heat to vaporize in the freezer area, so the lower compartment will get more cooling.

Take a couple minutes and read about that absorption fridge and how it functions

    many thanks
guess I'll just have to start finding uses for the ice cubes after all...maybe single malt, maybe lemonade
    cheers
