- pianotunaNomad IIIHi MrWizard,
Thank you. I've found out from the insurance that to get replacement value I must purchase a Yamaha. :(
Not that the Yamaha is bad--just heavy.
I will be having a cradle welded up and putting the generator at the front of the RV. It will have dual receivers so it won't flop around like a dead fish, and it will have a cage and serious locks. Next time round the folks will need a cutting torch.
I will be favoring the passenger's side to try and offset the weight on the driver's side of the RV.
I'm missing the big inverter, and the generator. It really limits what I can do.MrWizard wrote:
I did a little research
There are two new inverter versions
3500 peak for gasoline only model
The dual fuel gasoline or portable l.p. Tank propane model
Is 3400 peak gasoline and 3100 peak on propane - JiminDenverExplorer II100 lbs, holy crude! I was thinking 20 lbs just in case.
Driving a SUV and pulling a trailer makes carrying the gas a major pain. The generator has to be drained, run dry and vented for a day before we load it up. The gas can, well we only have room for 5 gallons and it stinks. - theoldwizard1Explorer II

As someone that never NEEDS to run the generator but keeps one in case, the propane is a very attractive option.
Yep, it is much safer to have a 100lb LP bottle than 20+ gallons of gasoline that will go bad. - JiminDenverExplorer IIAs someone that never NEEDS to run the generator but keeps one in case, the propane is a very attractive option.

Yes, but with a $700 deductible, and they may or may not cover the add on Pinella remote.
Yes, I'm in the same dilemma as before. I could go to a much larger solar system rather than replacing the generator.
But the cash they will give me is much less than the replacement value. So if I go with the generator--I have less of a loss.
I can understand that and I know that even with as much solar as I have that I want to keep a generator as a back up. - bikendanExplorer

your friend probably had the Champion open-frame contractor generator.
they're around 65db.
the OP is talking about one of Champion inverter generators, which are much quieter and more fuel efficient. they're around 57db. - theoldwizard1Explorer II

Any generator makes noise.
Most campgrounds have a rule of "No generators after 9 or 10 o'clock".
Batteries, 12V appliances and inverter make no noise. - StraboExplorerHow loud are they, my friend had one for camping, his was loud.
