Any resale value of roof ac with no freon?

Just replaced my Coleman/Mach roof ac unit. The old one was working but lost freon and wouldn't cool. Fan and compressor still comes on. Is it worth putting on craigslist for parts? What kind of price could it bring?
  • Best thing to do is put an ad on your local Freelist site and get someone to haul it off.

  • You can get $50 all day long for a shroud in good condition- the blower motor has a like value as well. There is also a bit of copper in it for scrap.
  • For the cost of a Craig's List ad, why not. I did something like that once (not with a dead A/C) with a price table at the bottom. The price went down 5$ a week.

It finally sold, but I don't remember for how much.

  • Replacing the Freon is just part of the cost. The leak will have to be found and repaired. It would be worth nothing to me, even if I needed one.
  • My experience is what is one persons junk is another persons treasure. We've sold more stuff on craigslist that was destined for the dumpster than I can count. Just be honest about the condition of the unit and give it a shot.
  • I would probably pay up to $40 if I needed a shroud or fan motor, assuming it was decent shape.
