Atwood Stove Increase in BTU's?

Difference between the burners is the different gas valves used which have different size flow ratings.

5000 btu
6500 btu
9000 btu

All due to different gas controls/orifices.

Often in the south where low temperatures are not a problem what is served up to the customer is a mix of propane and butane. This actually gives the end user more heat per pound than straight propane. Butane boils at 0 C (32 f) and propane boils at -42 C (-44 f), so you can see why low temperatures may be a problem for such a mix.

I have been here in SoCal for over 70 years and would like to know what JaxDad is talking about. PM me with some specifics so I'll be better prepared when refilling my tank.

I am not a HVAC guy but seem to have read that the orifice will restrict the flow of gas and you get less heat, that and the size of the burner itself will dictate the output of a burner. There is a guy called Golden on here that is a HVAC guy and should know or go to a propane store and ask.

I cooked breakfast on the induction cooker, lunch in the microwave, and supper on the induction cooker. All the energy I used was indirectly free from the sun via solar panels. It was a cloudy day.

Any of my RV's propane cooktop's three burners will ... very fast too ... while at the same time leaving my battery SOC untouched! :B

BTW and FWIW, we just installed a large propane tank on our property for our stick house in order to change soon from an electric cooktop to a propane cooktop. I hope we didn't make a mistake.

We do a lot of cooking while we're on the road - and the limiting factor of heat output makes it difficult to boil things effectively.

Most of the time, we're using a butane unit outside (and creating wind baffles around to minimize the heat loss.

Any suggestions?

What model is this Atwood? Ours from maybe 2002 ( rig built in Oct 2002) has three equal sized burners but I have no info on their BTUs. They each have a big flame on High to boil a pot ok.

Each burner has a different length /shape of tube on it to go to the front propane connection that feeds them, so if you swapped out, you would need to get the tube to be the right one for each burner. Take the cover off and have a look to see what is involved there. (ours is a bit of a struggle to get the top off--push it back and then pry it up hard. Getting it back on is worse, the front catch bends so you have to bend it back just so and then get it in there --use a bigger hammer sort of thing! :( )

IMO call Atwood and ask if you can swap out the burners or not.
