BATTERY UPGRADE

I switched over to Deka Group 31 AGMs about 4 years ago and love them. No maintenance required.

I retired my Trojan Group 31 at eight years of age. I moved it to my fishing boat and still going strong.

I just installed a new pair of Deka 6 volt golf cart AGM’s, I’ve had really good service from Deka made by East Penn in the past. I was able to get them from the local distributor for under $200 each. I went AGM this time because I don’t want to have take them out to water them anymore.

There are a lot of factors that go into battery selection… the type of use, type of charger, required capacity, budget, installation location and orientation, etc, etc…
If you let us know more about your specific needs you will get much more informative responses.

As for brand preferences… I think Trojan makes excellent flooded lead acid (FLA) batteries that are well suited for RV use…. but there are plenty of other brands/types that may be more (or less) suited to your situation. I am also partial to Odyssey batteries and I have a bunch of 'em in my truck & camper, but they're not the right choice for everybody.

I have enough crud to check and recheck at work and at play, Batteries do not need to be on that list. I went with AGMs 4 years ago, no drop off in change and never need watering.

Trojan is considered by many to be the best.
I went with DEKA, which are still made in the USofA.

For house batteries you want a true Deep Cycle, not a Marine/Deep cycle. Golf Car batteries (now available in both six and 12 volt types) are DEEP CYCLE.

If access for watering and cleaning is an issue go with Maintenance free.

I do not feel the alleged advantages of AGM are enough to warrant the price and in my expierence, AGM's did not deliver the "Extended life" some claim for them, IN fact they were the shorted lived batteries in the house.
