Cleaning day/night window shades

Thought this might be helpful, our young granddaughter spilled red koolaid on the shade at the dining table. We were sure it was ruined, but there is hope and thank goodness there is Oxi Clean. We removed the shade and laid it out on a large table with white or light colored towels under it,sprayed it with the spray type oxiclean and blotted and scrubbed lightly kept repeating this until stain was gone. Then sprayed lightly with clear clean water and blotted with more clean towels just to rinse the oxiclean out a bit. It got the stain out completely but it looked like the starch was gone in the pleats we let it dry completely and sprayed with some spray starch pleated them up completely then wrapped it tight with strong rubber bands and let dry. They look like new can't tell the stain was ever there. They are very expensive to replace not to mention the fabric ours is made with had been discontinued so all would have had to be replaced, so this was a real money saver.

  • Just so we understand... which spray Oxi? The laundry spray? And did you spray the entire shade or just the stained area? And how old was the shade or, more to the point, how long ago had it been cleaned previously?

    Thanks for sharing.
  • Sorry I wasn't more clear, the Oxi spray we used was that you can use to spray stains on your laundry. The shades had never been cleaned before and the stain had set for quite sometime before we noticed it and the hot TX sun had been shining on it the whole time. Our DIL and granddaughter had stayed in the RV a while when our son was in Afghanistan and she had forgot about the spill and didn't mention it, so it had been set in for several months. I hope this info helps if You have more questions I'll be glad to answer them. My husband and I both are amazed at how well it worked, like I said the shade looks as if nothing had ever been on it and it was also on the white part of the shade. We did spray out around the stain a bit, but did not spray the whole shade.
