Cleaning up my stabilizer jacks

Previous owner didn't use them much and definitely didn't take care of them. They were very rusty.

It took a significant amount of time with some wire brushes to revive them.

I still haven't figure out the best lube for the jack screws. Something that doesn't attract dust would be ideal, because the dust and lube turn to grime and cause them not to operate well
  • I've had good luck using motorcycle chain lube. It goes on liquid and drys to a nice, non sticky surface.
Get it in a spray can.

I'm not interested in watching a video of someone cleaning stabilizers but the paperwork for my BAL stabilizers says to use White Lithium grease. It comes in a spray can and is a dry type lube.

    GOOD IDEA!

Got some, since I have several motorcycles.

    Thanks for the tip.
  • I recenetly had a discussion with an RV mechanic. He said do not put any lube on the gears for the slide out because they attract dirt. I found some dry lubricant and plan to use it for the slide out and the corner jacks.
  • Well I am not an RV Tech, but I use oil on my slide gears all the time. Seems to help keep the corrosion and rust down.
