Cruise Control / Emergency Flashers

Here is a new one on me. We started out in our motorhome built on Ford F53 chassis. Early on, the cruise control, once activated, would function properly only to deactivate. It did as it would if I hit the brakes but I had not done so. This continued for 2-3 days and then the malfunction quit and CC worked fine. This issue was replaced with a new problem. If I operated the emergency flashers and hit the brakes, the fuse controlling the brake lights and emergency flashers popped. This happened several times. Somehow, I feel that this all focuses somewhere in the sensors on or around the brake pedal, both the CC problem and now the fuse issue. Anyone have any experience along these lines?
  • I would check the turn signal/ multifunction switch.
I've seen these short out and pop fuses.
The fact that the fuse popped when you pushed on the hazard switch, indicates a bad switch.
  • Will give that a try, Fred. Can't be much of an investment for the flasher relay. CC, brakes and flashers are all tied together somehow. Thanks
  • Hi,

When I had my Banks exhaust system installed, the CC stopped working on my way home. I finally figured out that they had turned on the emergency flashers when they parked the RV in front of their facility.

Once I turned off the flashers, then the CC worked normally.

I also needed to replace the flasher relay. It is a silver round thing that is in the fuse panel. IT unhooks, take it to the auto parts store, they have plenty of them. Get the heavy duty version. I think it pulls out, but might be twist then pull.

    Good luck!

    Fred.
