Decal replacement

I've done a search for decal replacement and have not found the answer, just basically the same question we have. Our '07 ROO Hybrid needs the decal replaced on the rear bunkend. It gets full sun and is getting tired looking. We ordered a new one from FR and it's arrived. We asked for instructions from their rep and the instructions were pretty much what they'd use on the line....pretty much line it up, peel off the liner and smooth it out. Sounds a lot easier than we're thinking it is. When we ordered decals for our boat many years ago, the instructions said to use a soapy water over the entire area, position the decal and move it as needed, then squeege the water away and smooth and let dry. FR had no mention of the soapy water part. Meanwhile, we've bought a new TT and the HTT is for sale. The rear decals are not terrible, but aren't perfect either. Has anyone actually replaced the original decals with the exact duplicate. DH is seeing this turn into a major disaster. He's thinking we try the soapy water process. I'm afraid that the soapy water will somehow mess up the adhesive that's used. We are both thinking that maybe we just explain to whoever buys it that we had ordered this before we decided to buy a new TT and hadn't had a chance to put it on yet, so here ya go. Thoughts?

  • When I replaced the decals on my MH I used windex instead of soapy water. It serves the same purpose by allowing you to move the decal around. After you squeege all the liquid and air out of the decal please give it plenty of time to dry before removing the covering. Good luck, and I did not have any problems doing mine.

  • The easiest way is a center hinge method. Get you decal where you want it and put some painters tape vertical through the middle. Pull back one side removal that side of backing and from the center work it out to the end letting it go down as you go. Then removal tape and do the same for the other side. You tube has some videos on it. If its a really large sticker you can also do the wet app method. Here is the fluid you can make.

    1/4-91% iso alcohol
    3/4-water
    3 drops dawn
  • You can use the soapy water method but be sure to not use a detergent. I always used dish washer liquid.
