Dexstar Steel Wheels Cracking

I had a 15" 6 Lug Dexstar wheel crack last year in the face of the rim and leak air out through the side of the wheel. No visible damage and not a single scratch in the wheel. I thought this was a fluke and just bought another one. I just had another one do the same thing. It leaks through the side of the rim about two inches from the bead. The only cause can be a faulty steel thickness or really poor steel quality. Has anyone ever had this happen or am I the only "lucky" one?

They can make custom rims for about anything.

They are the wheels that came on the trailer, so GulfStream is the one I am dealing with. Have not heard anything back yet, but I just emailed them late this afternoon.

I just have a hard time believing cracks in the smooth part of the rim is a regular occurance, since that would indicate the rim is either too weak or when it was stamped, the steel got too thin in spots. I was willing to let the one slide, as that would be a fluke. Now that another has done the exact same thing, I really don't trust these wheels. Both times, they have gone flat overnight after we had arrived at the campground, so no tire failure and no damage has occurred to this point, but I am starting to wonder how long that luck is going to hold out.

Cracks in trailer wheels isn't anything new.
I've been pulling trailers since the early '60 sometimes for a living and every once in a while cracks in the centers/valleys/weld beads/etc rear their ugly head in any brand steel or aluminum trailer wheels.

I've had and have seen several of all of the above happen over the years.
