- Dutch_12078Explorer IIA Dish VIP211z and Winegard Pathway X2 bundle is only about $450 on Amazon. The X2 is a better choice than the Tailgater since it has a larger dish and can also work with both the western and eastern arc satellites for more aiming options. The Tailgater is western arc only.
- garyemunsonExplorer III splurged and got a Tailgater automatic antenna. Best $400 I ever spent. Originally I intended to use it as a portable so I could 'find a hole in the trees' since the roof mounted antenna on our last coach often irritated me because I could not get a clear view I needed. After several months of portable use, I ended up mounting it on the roof. I found the 'clear view' issue to be a wash as what you lost in 'pointablity' was offset by the higher vantage point of being on the roof. I found quite often I was dragging the dish up there anyway. Now I just try to get a site that's clear of trees (if possible). The system 'goes to work' as soon as you are plugged into shore power and usually by the time we are done hooking everything up, it's found the satellite and is playing TV. Something I noticed is that even when the receiver is off, the dish is still powered up and since many campsites are really quiet at night, you might hear the little motors buzzing at times during the night. I put in a switch that shuts off the satellite receiver outlet so I can turn it off at night. Downside is that the start-up is delayed as the receiver reboots and finds the satellite again in the morning when I turn the switch on.
- Sandia_ManExplorer IIIt won't work with Dish equipment. New or even used Dish network satellite dishes are cheap on Ebay, I picked up our new dish for under $50. Dish VIP receivers are modestly priced as well with some under $100 making the transition easy on the pocket book. I used the same home made stand and set up is not much different in terms of pointing and acquiring satellite signal.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIDish "Flex" (pay-as-you-go) accounts do not include any equipment, and you can usually save some bucks by buying the pieces separately from third-party vendors.
- noplace2ExplorerThey are not compatible. Shouldn't be a problem as a new dish is supplied with the start up package.
