I have one and if it sits unhooked for 2-3 weeks it goes to sleep and I have to call Dish to zap it with a wake up call before it will work again. Has anyone else experienced this? There must be a cure as a TT forum member said his can sit for months without power and causes no problem.

Thanks DJ

Be VERY careful when calling DISH support!
I'm a full timer and when I call to have DISH change my "service Area" 8 times out of 10 they end up screwing with my billing address and then I have issues. I end up having to call a 2nd time! Their overseas support team still have some learning.

Not a full timer, but have changed my "service address" many times and have never had that happen.

We had a 211z dedicated for use in our previous trailer. If we did not connect it up once a month we ran into the situation you've seen. I'm surprised it's happening as little as 2 weeks.

Our solution was to bring the receiver and tailgater home if we were not going to camp within a month and set it up for a few hours. I like 2oldman's solution better as it would be less of a hassle.

When hooked to power AND the tailgaitor is connected, unplug the receiver, wait about 15 seconds then plug back in. The receiver will automatically search for the tailgator and any satellites. Takes at least 5 minutes to reset. Grab a cold beverage of your choice and wait.

But you say you just hooked up power to the RV. However if using a tailgator or similar antenna that item was probably not on line when you connected the power. Saves the phone call.

Much better than being on hold, listening to all their ads for shows, then being reminded 8 times to use the website. About the only thing I must call for is changing locals.

Use Dish Chat to do this without having to make a phone call. I just ask them to ping my receiver.

Sure. On the My Equipment page you'll see this underneath each listed receiver:

That happens to us from time to time, and when we call Dish they care not about the antenna but want VIP 211 receiver info as this is the item that needs to be pinged. We don't use the Tailgator, we manually set-up the same sat dish we have mounted on our roof at home on a tripod purchased online. I hear you it can be a hassle to call, have used Dish chat in the past to get VIP 211 receiver pinged.

I agree it is the receiver, not the Tailgater that "goes to sleep". The Tailgater simply reacts to commands from the receiver. The receiver would do the same with a tripod mounted dish. However mine does not go to sleep until a month or so has passed unused. If I use it at least once a month it remains active.
