Domestic fridge not cooling

Hi There,
My dometic fridge does not seem to be cooling well. The fridge only gets down to about 15 degrees celsius. The freezer is frozen. The picture attached shows the top fridge vent partially blocked off with ply wood. Fridge is in a slide. Is this normal. Any other ideas as to why the fridge is not cold but the freezer is?
Thanks

  • Sorry I forgot to find the fridge model number - at work - it is in a 2015 Rockwood signature ultra lite fifth wheel.
  • Hi Folks,
Thanks for your help. So it looks like I have two problems. I changed the propane tanks from side to side and the same propane problem exists - no flow from the right side tank - must be the auto switch over regulator. The stove works fine on when running on the left side tank. When the refrigerator is running I can hear the flame burning, there are two fans running, but the fridge is still 15c - the freezer is frozen. So its back to the dealer I guess!
  • Do you hear any fans running in the back? If it is mounted in a slide as you said there must be one or two fans. If one goes bad it will not work well.

A few more pictures will help.
  • probably NOT your problem, but you asked the question---WHY is the freezer Frozen but the refer warm? This is a classic of a BAD cooling unit. They will freeze the freezer but NOT cool the lower section. While that wood baffle looks bad, it DOES do its job of forcing the air THRU the Condensor fins. BUT, if you do NOT have any rear AUX fan system, then that refer will not work correctly in a slide room. It is up to the RV maker to supply or order the refer fans. NOT a Dometic problem, but, Dometic may help. It will be a OEM service center repair by your RV maker. At 59 degrees, I will bet the cooling unit has BAKED and will not function correctly from lack of good ventilation. Doug

Thanks for your reply - trailer is brand new so that baffle came from the factory. Looks like I have a propane problem as the stove will lite but goes out.

Close propane cylinder valves........then SLOWLY open valve

Sounds like 'excess flow check valve' tripped and has limited propane flow

    New trailer.....plywood baffle looks amateurish
Blocking off lower portion of upper vent

Idea is to minimize clearances and use a baffle above/behind condenser fins so air flow is thru them

    Once again.....what MODEL is fridge?

  • Looks like previous owner added that plywood as a 'baffle' in hopes of directing airflow thru condenser fins better.

15*C (59*F) in food compartment and freezer 'frozen' could mean couple things.

Fridge on slideout ...........should have FAN(s) to help increase the draft from lower to upper vents
Fan has failed.......or no fan installed
12V DC computer fan center lined mid-position ----just above absorber tubes (large slanted tubing)

OR Cooling unit has obstruction/blockage allowing freezer section to cool but interfering with cooling process in food section.
    Cooling unit replacement

    What Dometic Model Fridge??????
