Dometic - Flameout Sound?

Ok RV'ers question, and I do need some help or guidance on this one. I can fix most anything on a RV. but this has be Clueless (clueless happens after a certain age) lol

As I was firing up the fridge (Dometic) in gas mode. it started fine, then, I would say about 4 minutes into it. maybe less. it almost sounded like a flameout through the whole backend of the fridge area, (top to bottom) then the "check" light came on. Now not sure how to run this one down. as I suck in google searching. Thought... (trust me this don't come fast and logical anymore) The best way for me to describe the sound, is if anyone has been around military jets, and they have a flame out. (sorry cant describe it any other way) that was the sound, that went from say top to bottom where the outside access door is.

Now, could the vent be clogged? I mean from the roof vent downward to the outside access door? Running on AC, is working slow but fine. just the gas side. also mind you. Serenity (the name for my RV) has been sitting idle (not running for over a year.)

Anyone with any thoughts? or Ideas? if its a major thing, then i need to correct it before a long trip this year. I can do about anything with a RV fixing. but this has me totally lost. and a little worried.... Thanks In Advance...

  • Start by cleaning it- the basics. A "bad board" will not cause a sound like that, but a spider web will.
  • hoping its not a bad control board, they are a little pricy for my TT. though I do have some problems with the eye board at times. going to check all the other things, and hopefully it will fix the problem. if not then the final step is a new board. hope i can find the number of it...
  • I just recently had the same issue. The flameout you're hearing is just that - the flame "puffing" out on the burner.

There are several things that can cause this. Could be a partially blocked flue, dirty burner, reduced propane pressure, bad control board, etc.

I'd recommend lighting the burner and checking the flame for color and size. If the flame is good (like mine was) it could be the control board. After cleaning and checking everything on mine I replaced the control board as a last ditch effort. That fixed the problem.
  • Their is a metal cover over the flame area on the outside accessible from the outside access panel. Move it so less air goes in the mixture therefore a stronger flame.
