Dometic fridge will often go in 'check' mode while driving

If it goes into check while sitting still, invest into a dinosaur board, that will cure it. I would get one anyway, the box works better.

First thing I would try is a routine preventitive maintenance including cleaning of the burner assembly.

What is most likely happening: The thing is blowing out due to wind as you drive.

It could also be a bad connection (Thermocouple (Flame sensor one) to control board, or the Thermocouple (Flame sensor) or the flame needs adjustment (part of the routine maintenance procedure)

Give it a good cleaning. If it persists consider a wind block on the inside of the vent. I have read posts of using the material from a home furnace filter. FWIW good luck.

I agree, rust and crud has blocked what should be a good flame. Makes it easier for it to blow out.

We used to have a similar problem. Once in a while the fridge would go off when driving, usually in gusty wind conditions. I suspected the flame was getting blown out. The factory control board would not try to re-light, it would just throw the check light and have to be reset.

I replaced the control board with one from Dinosaur because of some other issues we were having, and one of the additional benefits is the Dinosaur board will keep trying to re-light the flame every 30 minutes if it goes out. So if the flame does go out for some unusual reason it will just re-light again.

Good suggestions so far. If the problem just began after operating on gas while driving for many mile with no problem, then I don't suspect the flame blowing out due to air currents. Do check the gas jet and clean if necessary. What I suspect is the thermocouple that tells the control board that the flame is burning, the wire from the thermocouple to the control board, or the control board itself. If the thermocouple wire has connectors clean them. If no solution replace control board and perhaps the thermocouple. These people can supply the board and I expect they can help with troubleshooting tips.

Read a number of threads where people had similar problem - wind blowing in blowing out the flame - recall they fixed problem by partial blocking of some of the exterior vents.

Thanks for the suggestions. The fridge is 10 years old (mh is a 2003) but it's certainly possible that the gas jet is clogged or the gas pressure is too low (alhtough it's not a problem when we are parked - we often camp without hookups but we only see the problem sometimes when we drive). I'll look into the ignition cutoff but it doesn't sound like it's that as it doesn't always do it when we drive - only sometimes.

I was hoping there would be a way to get diagnostics from the check light somehow.

Having it serviced is probably not a bad idea but my problem is that I haven't really found an RV tech I trust to know what he's doing ...

True, but it will NOT activate the check lite system.

You need to run the refer on LP while camped and see if it still goes to check. It is very difficult to start a diagnosis without knowing that. Doug
